Is the 6-month Stock Market Rally About to End?.

by Bob Chapman Global Research October 1, 2009 The G-20 Pittsburg Summit ended last Friday. Their official statements made for some novel and interesting reading. We were informed that the group could by working together could manage a transition to a more balanced pattern of global growth. Tending to domestic demand as private savings increase. It is obvious to us this cannot work. We are seeing increased savings and decreased consumption. The IMF as well agrees with these policies. [more...]

A Mahatma rally!

"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed." – Mahatma Gandhi. Whether one should be greedy at this stage is a BIG question after such a stunning rally. We’ve come a long way in a year. The journey from the brink of Great Depression has been spectacular. The moot point is where do we go from here? The fact that so many people have missed the rally could ensure that the bulls maintain an upper hand. [more...]

Four Big Economic Indicators to Watch

There are many items that influence the day-to-day moves in a stock, bond, or commodity’s price — earnings news, corporate financials, simple supply and demand, and a whole lot more. Heck, I’ve even read an academic study that argued the weather has a huge influence on whether markets close up or down! But when it comes to figuring out the bigger-picture, longer-term moves for whole investment classes, there’s nothing better than watching a few key economic indicators. [more...]

Financial Dispatch: Private sector still losing jobs

Andrew Torgan CNN Financial News Producer The first of this week’s big employment reports is out and the numbers are a bit of a disappointment. Payroll-processing firm ADP says private-sector employers cut 254,000 jobs in September, down from a revised 277,000 in August. But that is the smallest monthly total since July 2008, even though it’s worse than the 200,000 loss economists had forecast. Large businesses, those with 500 or more workers, let 61,000 workers go in September. [more...]

Germany - The Bitter-Sweet Tears Of Angela von Merkel

German voters gave Chancellor Angela Merkel the green light for a second term on Sunday, along with a clear mandate to form a new government with the liberal Free Democrat Party (FDP). But just what exactly is the new government likely to do? Merlek has been quick to pour cold water on any idea of early tax cuts, “I expect we’ll agree very quickly on tax policy, especially when you look at the leeway we have with the budget,” she is quoted as saying. Here is a copy of ACORN’s so-called People’s Platform , via the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine, which we first posted back on October 16, 2008 . As is noted below, this platform was updated in 1990 in Chicago, which was just two years before Mr. Obama began to work for the organization via Project Vote and as a trainer for their "power" seminars. AEI Interns’ Transcripts in Date Order: Their Own First Draft of History

First of all, I want to reemphasize everything Laurie just said. This is not a new threat, and this is not a threat we did not know about. Saddam Hussein has, in many ways, openly dreamed of mass death in the United States. He has shared his dreams with his nation and the world many times. We also know he has actively planned to do so many times, and Laurie’s book is a rather convincing argument that he is active and successfully implemented plans to do so as well. [more...]

No surprise here; FBI and likely other federal agencies abuse the use of National Security Letters. Support the JUSTICE Act unless the Republicans can do better.

I have been railing against the Patriot Act (which is anything but) since its passage and I physically protested same back when AG Ashcroft visited Salt Lake City in circa 2003. Numerous provisions of that Act signed into law by the SOB (Son Of a Bush) were and remain egregious. The Patriot Act assailed our rights on so many fronts, not the least of which was broadening the use of National Security Letters (NSL). [more...]

Welsh Investment letter – September 2009

~~~ V-SHAPED RECOVERY VERSUS SECULAR AND CYCLICAL HEADWINDS Growing up in Chicago, I looked forward to every baseball season, and I cheered for both the White Sox and Cubs, since neither team won that much. I never saw the point in being choosey. The GO-Go White Sox went to the World Series in 1959, before winning it 46 years later in 2005, and 88 years after winning in 1917. The Cubs haven’t won a World Series since 1908, and that 100 year streak appears safe in 2009. [more...]
