The Road to Zimbabwe
By Terry Coxon, Editor, The Casey Report GoldSeek.com Sprinkled among all the official talk about efforts to end the current recession, you’ll hear assurances, notably from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, that when the economy does revive, it won’t be allowed to blast off into runaway inflation. The Fed, we’re being promised, will prevent such a launch by reabsorbing the hundreds of billions of dollars of excess liquidity it recently created to halt the credit crisis. [more...]

Reforms Make It Harder To Give Credit Cards To College Students
Due to the latest credit card alterations that are starting up next year, card issuers will have a strenuous time getting teenagers on college campuses to apply for credit cards without their parents’ knowledge. From St. Paul to Pittsburgh: Citizen Media is Not a Crime
St. Paul is a window into our future. It is a future where, as one protester told me by phone, “people have been pepper-gassed, thrown on the ground by police who had drawn their weapons, had their documents seized and their tattoos photographed before being taken away to jail.” It is a future where illegal house raids are carried out. It is a future where vans containing heavily armed paramilitary units circle and film protesters. [more...]

The Conscience of the Digital Citizen
A Visualization of the Internet Tell me if you’ve heard this all before. I’d imagine online life was simple back then, back when the The Mentor and his kind discovered the computer, then travelled the electron, and the switch and started to marvel at the beauty of the baud. It was a simpler time because it was a world without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias. It was a world where people judge others for what they say and think, not what they look like. [more...]

No surprise here; FBI and likely other federal agencies abuse the use of National Security Letters. Support the JUSTICE Act unless the Republicans can do better.
I have been railing against the Patriot Act (which is anything but) since its passage and I physically protested same back when AG Ashcroft visited Salt Lake City in circa 2003. Numerous provisions of that Act signed into law by the SOB (Son Of a Bush) were and remain egregious. The Patriot Act assailed our rights on so many fronts, not the least of which was broadening the use of National Security Letters (NSL). [more...]

Vehicle Repossession: How To Pay The Deficiency Balance
Amazon.de Widgets When you finance or lease a vehicle, your creditor or lessor has important rights that end once you’ve paid off your loan or lease obligation. These rights are established by the contract you signed and the law of your state. For example, if you don’t make timely payments on the vehicle, your creditor may have the right to “repossess” — or take back your car without going to court or warning you in advance. [more...]

Daily Mail UK: Drivers’ details sold by DVLA are used in bizarre roadside adverts for Castrol
The Daily Mail UK reports that the car registration data of millions of motorists were sold to an oil company that used the data for marketing. Giant digital billboards from Castrol scanned motorists’ license plates, ran the plates through a database and instantly displayed on the billboards what the best oil was for that specific driver’s car. It’s not surprising that data collected for one use was also used — without the motorists’ consent — for another use.
