Bad Credit Car Loans

The worst case credit scenario for all of us is bankruptcy. Those fears aren’t really justified, but it’s true that borrowing for cars and houses is going to get much tougher after you’ve gone through the big BK. [more...]

Jim Grant Declares Boom is Nigh

The Daily Reckoning Personal conversions sometimes mark dramatic turns in history. Saul of Taursus saw a vision so bright it left him blind. The next thing you know, he had changed his name and was pushing Christianity all over the world. According to Gibbon, the Roman Empire fell as a consequence. Then, on the advice of his mistress, Gabrielle, Henry IV became a Catholic, leading to the Edict of Nantes and its subsequent revocation. Even in the world of finance, there are momentous conversions. [more...]

China Spreads Aid in Africa, With a Catch

It is not every day that global leaders set foot in this southern African nation of gravel roads, towering sand dunes and a mere two million people. So when President Hu Jintao of China touched down here in February 2007 with a 130-person delegation in tow, it clearly was not just a courtesy call.   And in fact, China soon granted Namibia a big low-interest loan, which Namibia tapped to buy $55.3 million worth of Chinese-made cargo scanners to deter smugglers. The Road to Zimbabwe

By Terry Coxon, Editor, The Casey Report GoldSeek.com Sprinkled among all the official talk about efforts to end the current recession, you’ll hear assurances, notably from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, that when the economy does revive, it won’t be allowed to blast off into runaway inflation. Wasting away

Not a day goes by here without new arguments why interest rates won’t rise. They go like this: The weather’s been good since last winter ended. People are enjoying it. They play and prosper in the sun. If the snows come it will be bad. We are not ready. We will suffer. Therefore the government will not allow it to be so. Other variations, too. Like pointing to Japan where rates have stayed low for two decades. Or claiming central banks will print money, buy all the bonds, and keep rates low. [more...]

Miguel Barbosa Interviews Michael Mauboussin: Author, Investor, & Multidisciplinary Thinker

Benoit Mandelbrot once said that “failure to explain is caused by failure to describe”. The world has experienced one of the most severe financial crises. How should we make sense of what happened? How to Hedge Against Inflation With a Home Equity Loan

Home equity loans were a large part of the consumer credit expansion that fueled the economy for more than a decade. The housing market bubble drove up housing asset prices, but without refinancing a homeowner couldn’t spend their new found fortune unless they got a home equity line of credit. If you are unaware of the coming wave of inflation that will threaten to unravel the global financial systems, all I can say is wise up or read some of my previous articles .  If you are aware of [more...]

Bailed Banks

The Bush-Obama strategy of throwing trillions at the banks to solve the mortgage crisis has been a failure. The banks welcome public money to remove toxic assets from their books, insured by we-the-taxpayers, as well as the hundreds of billions in direct handouts, but they’ve hardly returned the favor. They’ve used these funds to pay mega salaries and prop up stock values, choices that obviously benefit them. They needed public support, no one wanted the system to collapse. [more...]

It’s time we all got off the Wallabies’ back

I’ve had this topic in my mind for a couple of months now. What really got me scribbling notes was that tragic period back in August, where the Ashes and the Bledisloe Cup were lost on the same weekend. The reaction in the week that followed was astounding. How To Obtain A Mortgage Loan Modification To Prevent Foreclosure

In today's economic environment, mortgage foreclosure hurts everyone. The homeowners' neighborhood loses as property values decline, crime rates go up, and the tax base evaporates. And the lenders lose because the cost of foreclosure is extremely high and they must report foreclosures as non-performing assets. [more...]
