Is Canada in a Recession?

I know this has nothing to do with travel, but I really have to ask this question: Is Canada in a Recession? Has your daily life changed?  Has your bank called your loan?  Is your credit gone?  Have you lost your house? Yes ... and we are selling it everyday. Is it really as bad as they are saying it is?  There has been a downturn [more...]

More Financial Bubbles Ahead?

Bob Chapman The International Forecaster September 14, 2009 Almost all important, pertinent data reflects continued weakness in the economy, especially retail sales and unemployment. There are small signs of inflation in spite of bogus government figures. In the flight to quality we see stronger gold, silver and commodities despite heavy market manipulation by the government. Bernanke will soon be forced to choose between saving the dollar and bonds or stocks. [more...]

The Economy is a Lie, too

Dr. Roberts is a former assistant Secretary of the Treasury, so he knows whereof he speaks on economics issues. And, for the record, he was equally scathing of economic policy under Bush II’s regime. August 30 2009: Tickle your fancy

Esther Bubley War Worker January 1943 War workers at home, Washington, D.C. "A radio is company for this girl in her boardinghouse room" Ilargi: It's often as amusing as it is surprising to me how readers react when I quote people who are perceived as being right-wing. My view is quite rudimentary: I’m not interested in the dividing lines in politics, but since I think a society needs to take care of its weakest, simply to survive, the only wing I seem to have is a left one. Wasting away

Not a day goes by here without new arguments why interest rates won’t rise. They go like this: The weather’s been good since last winter ended. People are enjoying it. They play and prosper in the sun. If the snows come it will be bad. We are not ready. We will suffer. Therefore the government will not allow it to be so. Other variations, too. Like pointing to Japan where rates have stayed low for two decades. Or claiming central banks will print money, buy all the bonds, and keep rates low. [more...]

Kenya finally feels Global Credit Crunch

Can you believe that the contraction of the long-term credit is already in the dictionary? Often defined as "a serious lack of money or credit," to deceive those that are looking to Kenyans, Africans have not experienced so-called crisis of the years, even decades. So the West is to take his medicine, finally, and over time. The beginning of this was found on 9 August 2007. The French investment bank BNP Paribas caused tremors throughout the world causing a sharp rise in borrowing costs. [more...]

Inflation is on Its Way

The public option for Obama insurance coverage has been described as just a sliver of the overall proposal. Universal coverage directly by government was not an essential element says Health & Human Services. Of course it was. The program is in retreat and the only way the Democrats can get passage of any kind is to re-craft a toothless passage and ram it through in a party line vote. The public is enraged at what the liberals and socialists have tried to foist on them. [more...]

How to Transfer Money to Canada

Every year, almost 40% of Canadian residents send money to other countries all over the globe. A sizable portion of this money goes to family members in Haiti and the Philippines. But did you know that there are also plenty of people who reside in other countries who transfer money to Canada, as well? It’s not something you hear about much. To be honest, a great many people assume that since Canada is a fairly wealthy, developed nation, its residents have little need of remittance. [more...]

G20 nations meet as protests flare on issue of international banking regulation

Again, the summit is being presented as a way to get the bankers, when it is in fact a further centralization of banking power. The picture below tells you much of what you need to know about the G20. And for new readers, it’s not that banks are inherently bad. But at the international level, economies are being governed now by a syndicate of privately held central banks that operate above the law and print money with which to acquire real equity. More Financial Bubbles Ahead?

After more then two years of government and Fed intervention in the economy, only banks, Wall Street and insurance companies have been bailed out. The economy should now move sideways for a year with slight GDP gains and a slowing in job losses. [more...]

Bigger Safer Banks May Be The Way To Go

The blogosphere has been preoccupied this weekend by the WaPo article about the big banks getting bigger in the wake of the financial crisis. The predominant sentiment seems to be that this is a bad thing. Students: Banks’ new Markets

For those of you who are unaware, Banks try to capitalize on attracting new (and young) customers on campus these days (most Universities have entire bank branches on campus).  They are quite aggresive in their marketing to these new potential clients, enticing them with iPods and other “perks” to open new accounts. When I was at University the on campus bank knew that a great many of the students were in Co-op, and thus excellent new victims for their bank service fees. [more...]

3 Ways to Transfer Money to Europe – Which One is the Best?

There are multiple ways to transfer money to Europe, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Which one is best for you? That depends on several different factors, such whether you and the money’s recipient(s) have access to your own bank accounts; whether or not there is a facility in the country (or for that matter in a local location); and how significant a transfer may be for the intended recipient(s) of the money. 1.
