My best friend talked me past my fear of buying on credit nearly three years ago when I purchased the 15 in Macbook that I use for most of my writing and blogging and general time wasting on the Internet. She convinced me that it was a reward for having completed my masters and securing a rather substantial pay raise in doing so. I hadn’t yet realized the money. My school district had established a policy of waiting to move people on the pay scale to mid-year where degree advancements were involved. [more...]

Chesapeake says $4 natgas too low to grow output GREENWICH, Conn. (Reuters) - U.S. natural gas prices will have to move higher to spur a resurgence in drilling activity and keep output of the fuel steady, the head of Chesapeake Energy Corp said on Wednesday. The weak U.S. economy has knocked natural gas prices sharply lower in the past 14 months, and sluggish demand for fuel has prompted producers such as Chesapeake to curtail drilling for new supplies. Choosing Between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13
The current global financial crisis caught many Americans unprepared for a downturn of the scale that has happened. As a consequence, many Americans found themselves in a situation where their financial liabilities far outpaced their ability to keep up without access to easy credit. The tightening of the credit markets in response to the current crisis inevitably led to a radical increase in the number of bankruptcies filed in the United States. [more...]

Do You Understand Chapter 13?
Many Americas were completely unprepared for the huge-scale downturn and financial crisis that is currently happening all over the world. Because so many Americans were unprepared and easy credit dried up, their expenses and liabilities quickly outstripped their ability to pay for their lifestyles. The financial crisis causes a tightening of credit all over, in turn leading to astounding increases in bankruptcy filings in the United States. [more...]

In high school, I once dated a girl whose father believed the world was doomed to nuclear destruction. He warned anyone who would listen about the coming armageddon [more...]

Self-Help Lesson: Improve Your Credit Score
If you want to be successful financially, you need to make sure that you have a great credit history. Remarkably, one number - your credit score - can make or break you. Banks, insurance companies, and many employers have come to rely on credit scores as a quick way to judge people. Thus, people without clean credit scores end up in a downward cycle: They pay more than they need to for home and car loans. They pay more for insurance policies. [more...]
