The Banggai Cardinal At Risk?

The Banggai Cardinal, properly called Pterapogon kauderni, is a fairly new fish for the salt water aquarium. The fish in the aquarium is fairly sedentary, but has lovely colouring, with black vertical striping on a silver body and a long forked tail, again silver/black. It has become popular for obvious reasons. A while ago it seemed likely that supplies of this fish from the wild would dry up because it appeared that the wild fish was under threat. Not a happy situation if correct. [more...]

The Atlantica Party Platform

In this post, I evaluate the Atlantica Party platform , as posted on the Avalon blog (I also posted the comment there; we'll see if it survives moderation). The platform doesn't fare too well. I am not sure why, but for some reason the political agenda of creating a unified Atlantic province seems to be conjoined with a poorly considered neo-conservative agenda.
