All About Government Public Marriage Records

by Charles Burton Public Marriage Records are an essential resource of public information for future reference and studies. The most common examples of their use are in providing information on family history and genealogy studies, as official documents in legal proceedings such as divorce, identity and inheritance and checking up the marital background of prospective spouse or partner. Going painstakingly through piles of hard copy archive, that was how to find marriage records in the past. [more...]

Flawed justice

Bad laws are the worst sort of tyranny. — Edmund Burke When William Hawkins was 28, he was convicted of attempted sexual contact with a 12 year old girl. It is the sort of crime most of us find odious, but Hawkins' crime actually occurred much earlier, when he was 16. Young men often do impulsive and stupid things. Hawkins was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison, served a bit more than 5 months and was released with the proviso that he register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. [more...]

What The Hell Is The ‘American Police Force,’ What Does It Do, And Who Funds It?

American Police Force – Cleveland ExaminerThis story about American Police Force is shaping up to be a quite wonderful little scandal. It’s perhaps a little early to offer a definitive statement of the facts so I’ll constrain myself to reasonable interpretations and point out that this is very much personal supposition, opinion, not a definitive statement of facts. But I would start by saying that American Police Force and their contract to run the empty jail in Hardin, Montana, well, it looks like [more...]

A Friday Evening Out With School Buddies at a Local College Cabaret Results In Hazardous and Irresponsible Drinking and Alcohol Poisoning Symptoms

When Janice was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a person who studied much of the time and who rarely, if ever, let her hair down by drinking with her peers. She seemed nearly obsessed about excelling academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her some security from a financial standpoint. After much contemplation, ultimately she came to a decision that she wanted to be an attorney. [more...]

Does Your Employer Carry a “Dead Peasant” Life Insurance Policy on You?

I remember the story about Wal-Mart collecting $72,820.30 in life insurance on an employee, Karen Armatrout, who died of cancer while working at Wal-Mart.  At the time, I didn’t think to look deeper to see if this was a common practice among big corporations. A Texas attorney, Michael D. Myers, sued Wal-Mart over the Karen Armatrout case and it was dismissed because it failed to reach the limit for a civil complaint to go before a federal judge.  However, Michael D. [more...]

We are quickly learning as a nation that President Obama and the Democrats in Congress are finding how the war on terror is not something that can turn  off and on like a blender.  The inconsistent statements, the reliance on the United Nations, the impulse to blame Israel for the problems in the Middle East, the genuflecting to Russia and there weak response to the nuclear progress made in Iran , point to a very bleak future for this country. Behind the Gambit in the A.S.C.-Xerox Deal
