is it true if you use debt consolidation svc, they want your power of attorney to act on your behalf?

I've delayed getting help for credit-card debt because I was told by one company they want my power of attorney which needs to be notarized before I can do business with them. I think that's scary! Yes….this is true. Most want a limited power of attorney… Stay away from any "debt consolidation" company that promises to cut your debt in half through debt settlement….This is a risky tactic of deliberately ceasing all payments to creditors and forcing your accounts into default to attempt settlements. What is Lawsuit Funding

September 17, 2009 | By Gary Vanderheim In Finance | Can you get cash out of a lawsuit before it settles? One way is to use Settlement loans or lawsuit loans. These kind of ‘loans’, and I put it in quotes for a reason, have become much more common in recent years. A settlement loan is an advance of some type. A company will give you money now and in return you agree to pay them back out of your settlement or verdict ( if the case goes that far ). [more...]

U.N Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon Calls for Immediate Action on Climate Change Two weeks ago, I visited the Arctic. I saw the remains of a glacier that just a few years ago was a majestic mass of ice. It had collapsed. Not slowly melted — collapsed. I traveled nine hours by ship from the world’s northernmost settlement to reach the polar ice rim. In just a few years, the same ship may be able to sail unimpeded all the way to the North Pole. The Arctic could be virtually ice-free by 2030. [more...]

Disputing a Court Summons for Credit Card Debt

The first important step is to actually respond to the court summons. Out of guilt, too many people mistakenly defeat themselves by ignoring a summons for credit card debt. They then lose by default and the collection attorney has his way with them. The answer to a court summons is only the beginning of the case. Two to three pages is quite sufficient. The consumer needs to use this answer to put the collection attorney on notice that he is going to have to work hard to prove his case. [more...]

Thought for Today: The singular most important and least reported event today was the announcement of a settlement of the lawsuit brought by the Italian city against JP Morgan concerning OTC derivatives sold to that city. That means kept secret by agreement of both parties. [more...]

Can law firms give me more protection than debt settlement companies?

The debt settlement companies are unauthorized to advise or contact the collector whenever there arises a need to do so.
