Honduras suspends civil liberties as ousted President calls for resistance

StatismWatch can’t cover a lot of South American issues in-depth (sorry), but it’s worth noting here that Manuel Zelaya, the democratically elected Honduran leader, was arrested in his bed by the new military junta and deported some months ago. (Exhaustive detail may be found at Democracy Now! ) As Greg Grandin, professor of Latin American history at NYU puts it, “The Honduran military is effectively a subsidiary of the United States government. Two Minute Warning: So, Tonight We’re Going to Party Like it’s 1999

Derek was amazed the first time he saw Marvin Harrison. Meet the Machines Ten years ago, I was a naïve 20-year-old college student on the road to…well, at the time I had little idea. However, at that time I got a first hand introduction to two of the most destructive forces in football… Peyton Manning and the Mount Union College Purple Raiders. The latter is obviously the lesser known of the two but comprises the most technically sound group of football players not playing Division I football. [more...]

AEI Interns’ Transcripts in Date Order: Their Own First Draft of History

First of all, I want to reemphasize everything Laurie just said. This is not a new threat, and this is not a threat we did not know about. Saddam Hussein has, in many ways, openly dreamed of mass death in the United States. He has shared his dreams with his nation and the world many times. We also know he has actively planned to do so many times, and Laurie’s book is a rather convincing argument that he is active and successfully implemented plans to do so as well. [more...]

Nation’s real stimulus package comes from growing economy, personal responsibility

Column by Adam French There is no doubt that we are currently sitting in the middle of the most trying economic times since the Great Depression. Virtually every American individual and business has in some way been affected by the current economic situation and the road to recovery is both long and winding. What is doubtful, however, are the stimulus packages/takeovers President Obama has used as a market corrector. [more...]

No surprise here; FBI and likely other federal agencies abuse the use of National Security Letters. Support the JUSTICE Act unless the Republicans can do better.

I have been railing against the Patriot Act (which is anything but) since its passage and I physically protested same back when AG Ashcroft visited Salt Lake City in circa 2003. Numerous provisions of that Act signed into law by the SOB (Son Of a Bush) were and remain egregious. The Patriot Act assailed our rights on so many fronts, not the least of which was broadening the use of National Security Letters (NSL). [more...]
